You Knew the Job was Dangerous!
I always feel badly for people who lose a loved one; mother, father, son, daughter, sister, or brother. Yes, it's always a sad thing.

Short Quiz:

Question #1: The police come knocking on your door. Should you A) Politely ask them their business B) Make like the Gingerbread Man and run?

Alright so you and your friend were smoking "pot" when the police came knocking. Running at this point although on the surface might seem like a good idea and while your brain might be a bit cloudy, still you've got to know that there are going to be consequences for running.

Question #2: When the police catch up to you, have you at gunpoint, you should: A) Pretend you're Randy "Macho Man" Savage and wrestle with the officer B) Lay flat, cooperate and try to remember Johnny Cockrane's telephone number?

In the melee that follows you've been grabbed around the neck, although going limb is still an option, you've decided to grab for the officer's flashlight. After being order to release the flashlight, you've opted to take this confrontation to the next level.

Question #3: After getting shot by the officer, you should A)continue to go for the flashlight option B) make like a salmon at the fish market?

Our young friend in the story decided he'd like to make like a Gingerbread Macho Man with a flashlight obsession and found himself petitioning at the "pearly gates." While all of this is rather sad and perhaps went too far, I still think our pot smoking friend had lots of opportunities save his life rather than take on the dangerous consequences of resisting arrest. Yes, he was this woman's beloved son and doesn't know this officer from Adam, but similarly, this officer has a mother too. Suppose the shoe was on the other foot, had this officer been less vigilant and been killed by a criminal; is it a relief when it's the officer who gets killed? It isn't a matter of being intimidated by a 120lbs 5'3" man. It's about him resisting, going for a weapon, and having only one objective: get home after your shift, alive.
